Glasgow Fashion Week

I have just received an invite to Glasgow Fashion week which has clashed with a lot of my work shifts, but better late than never anyway! It's the 19th till the 21st this week and shows run from 1pm till 7pm each day; and I was originally working all three nights. Fortunately, although I do desperately need the hours, I managed to get the Friday night off. It is probably the best one as it is the last night and I am going to attend on Thursday, also for the first half.

The events are spread across two Glasgow venues; The Winchester and Arta. On the Thursday I will be looking forward to Tantrums & Tiaras show with Boudiche: combining stunning headpieces with lingerie, which will be on 2pm at Arta. However, it may clash with Veronica De La Canal who is a must at 3pm at The Winchester. Quite well known in Argentina, Veronica's haute couture designs are Romantic and Baroc influenced; making stunning corsets and show pieces. Something I certainly don't intend to miss and should be able to squeeze in before work.

On the Friday Shazia Saleem, who take her inspiration from weavers in India's ancient cities and towns, makes socially conscious ready to wear clothes which are currently available on ASOS.com through the Laden showroom. Her show will be at 4pm at The Winchester.

Ending the three day event is Mac Millan who was nominated for Scottish Designer of the Year 2007.

It's all very exciting!!

  4. Hello Rachael
I wondered if you would be interested in coming along to this fab charity eco-fashion event...

The Swish – it’s swapping AND shopping!

Glasgow’s fashionistas will be flocking to The Hub at Pacific Quay on Thursday 30 September 2010 for The Swish, a fabulous evening of clothes swapping and shopping.

The latest fashion craze to hit the city, ‘Swishing’ is cool, ethical, environmentally friendly – and on this occasion it’s all for charity.

All proceeds from the event - which will feature a massive clothes swap, craft market, live auction of celebrity outfits, style advice, pampering treatments and live music - will go to Scottish Huntington’s Association, a registered charity helping people throughout Scotland affected by Huntington’s disease.

Event Organiser Valerie Ross of Scottish Huntington’s Association said:

“We all love fabulous new clothes, but not always the consequences for our bank balance – Swishing is shopping without the financial hangover. Everyone brings at least three items of good quality clothing that have been lurking unloved in the wardrobe, but that someone else will give a good home to – and for each item you bring, you get a token allowing you to take home another item from the rail.”

“The Swish is the ultimate eco-fashion event, and a great way to update your wardrobe, grab a bargain and party at the same time.”

Running from 6.30pm – 10pm on Thursday 30 September 2010, The Swish will also feature a craft market of unique, handmade products such as jewellery, homewares, fashion and interior accessories; a live auction of outfits and items donated by some special guests; personal style advice and mini-pampering treatments; and some fabulous live music. Tickets are just £10 in advance (or £12 on the door) and include fizz and cupcakes - and The Hub bar will be open throughout the evening.
